This shoot was a dream. Perfect location, perfect team, and too much fun. I've always had dreams of being a "real" photographer and going to beautiful places to photograph beautiful people. You feel kind of like a celebrity carrying around a wardrobe and equipment (though we had minimal) while hiking through a wild Alaska for the sole purpose to create some art.
We began with Gibby doing the most amazing makeup job while it poured down rain outside. I work for Jeff Schultz, the official photographer of the Iditarod, and he always says, "Don't change your plans, change your clothes," so despite the less than ideal weather, we still went forward with the shoot. After Gibby worked her magic, we headed to Independence Mine (not without getting lost a couple of times along the way), which is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen on this planet.
The rain of course let up and left us with a wonderfully foggy/cloudy atmosphere and it couldn't have been more perfect for photos, even though it was a little cold! I have to give major props to Miranda--she was so awesome despite the weather.
I can't thank the team enough for all their hard work and setting aside a day to do this. It was too much fun and I am very pleased with the images.
